INTERVALS

The length of a scale is exactly one octave.
In fact we mean: the distance between the first and last note of a scale is one octave.
The word octave comes from the Greek word okto and means 8.
In a scale there are more distances. These distances are called intervals.
On this page you can see an overview of the most well known intervals. You have to learn their names by heart.

When you start doing exercises to hear the intervals (solfeggio),
the page with the characters of the intervals can help you.
