COMPLEMENTAIRY INTERVALS


Two intervals who fit together in 1 octave, we call complementairy intervals.

As you know we can divide the intervals in 3 groups because they sound very different:

1 perfect consonants (1, 4, 5, 8)

2 consonants (3, 6)

3 dissonants (2, 7)



When you have to listen to the intervals, you can use this knowledge.
In the example below you can see the intervals, belonging to eachother.
The character of these intervals are about the same.
The sum of both numbers is always 9.
