METRE AND RHYTHM - SWING FEEL
In pop- and jazzmusic, very often we play in swing rhythm, swing feel or triplet feel.
Instead of equal eighth notes, we play a rhythm as long - short - long - short.
In example nr. 1 you see triplets. Every time the first and second notes are the same.
In example nr. 2 the first and second notes are tied together and now you see the
swing rhythm. Now you can understand why we call this triplet feel sometimes.
In example nr. 3 you see the correct way of notation, because of the ties.
But this notation isn't used very often, because it looks a little complicated.
Mostly you see the notation as below in example nr. 4, with equal eighth notes,
and an extra note that you have to play the eighth notes with swing feel:
